IV. STANDARDS FOR ACCESSORIES
One of main goals of the GMMCS is to present the most accurate historical impression possible. All items brought to an annual encampment are subject to inspection by the Benzine Board for historical appropriateness. All items must be reproduction except those items marked with an asterisk (*).
Consider the following when applying to the GMCS:
1. It is recommended you do not purchase any new items without checking first with the GMMCS publication: Clothing and Equipment, Source List, Infantry, 1867-1891, By doing so you will not be spending money on items not approved by the Benzine Board.
2. All containers will be of historic pattern and bear historic- style labels. At a MINIMUM modern labels will be removed or obliterated. Examples include shoe paste cans, match boxes, brass polish containers, oilers, tobacco containers, ammunition containers, etc.
3. Eyewear must be historic frames with oval lenses. Contact lenses are permitted.
4. Personal grooming items must be manufactured of historic materials and pattern: Towels, soap, bone toothbrush, tooth powder (dentrifice), razor, sewing kit ("house-wife"), etc. Prescription medicine should be placed in a non-descriptive container.
5. Other personal items: smoking pipes, jewelry, pocket watches, etc. will be of historic patterns and styles.
